Special Package! Snorkeling Trip in Bali
Amed Beach
Amed Beach is located in the east of Bali and is in Abang sub-district, Karangasem Bali. Amed Beach can be reached in around 3.5 hours from the airport. Jukung or traditional Balinese boats can also be an alternative transportation that you can use to get to Amed.
Amed is famous for its underwater beauty. There are many diving or snorkeling spots here, both for experts and beginners. One of the advantages of several snorkeling spots in Amed that other areas don’t have is that they are so close to the beach, so we don’t need to rent a boat to take us and we only need to swim from the beach.
Amed’s most popular snorkeling spot:
Jemeluk Bay
The uniqueness of Jemeluk Bay is that there is a kind of temple under the sea. Inside this temple, there are many fish passing by or even hidden. This temple is the best place if we want to take underwater photos. The location of the temple is right in front of Blue Star Cafe & Bungalows and is located at a depth of around 5 m.
Most of the coral here is dead but there are lots of fish here, especially around the temple. Jemeluk Bay is also the most suitable place to enjoy the sunset, with a glass of coffee while enjoying the view from the top of the beach with the curve of the bay and the sun slowly starting to set is an extraordinary combination.
Lipah Bay
The second most popular Amed snorkeling spot is Lipah Bay. It is a relatively quiet spot with one of the nicest sandy beach in the area. The color of the sea is not so dark as at other black sand beaches.
Walking into the sea is very easy and safe at high tide. At low tide, you need to pay attention not to hurt yourself on the corals in the shallow water. If you don’t find any path to go in, better wait for higher water! You should never walk on the corals as you can break them and cut yourself too.
While snorkeling at Lipah Bay, you find big hard coral formations as well as many red sea fans. The best area to snorkel is in front of Vienna Beach Resort (former Pondok Vienna).
Japanese Wreck
One of the most popular spots for snorkelers around Amed is the Japanese Wreck. As the name suggests it is a sunken Japanese freighter from World War II, Ryuko Maru. The ship is located just off the coast not too far from Amed. Japanese Wreck is home to an abundance of corals, attracting a wide variety of marine life, making it an ideal spot for snorkeling. From all the aquatic beauty the site has to offer, the most distinctive is the mesmerizing soft corals like pens, sea fans, and the majestic Dendronephtya.
The area of the wreck is marked by black buoys and could be reached from the beach. If you don’t trust your ability of swimming, hiring a snorkeling tour boat is a good idea, which also could be used as transport to the famous snorkeling site from other areas of Amed.
